Product overview In the mid-1980s, YAMAHA had expanded its ST lineup to a full-fledged ST model. In the mid-1980s, YAMAHA had a very extensive ST lineup, which had previously consisted of only three grades, but now included six different models, from the top-of-the-line "ST-1000M(R)" to the entry-level "ST-360R(M)," and all models were available with maple or rose fretboards, making for a double lineup. This instrument is a rose fingerboard model of the "ST-400," the third grade from the bottom, and was one rank higher than the entry grade "ST-360. Of course, all YAMAHA models at this time were made in Japan. Although hidden in the shadows of Greco, Aria, and others, these guitars are still popular among those in the know as Japan vintage.
