Product overview We've just received a 1986 Greco headless bass, the "Formula," manufactured under license by Steinberger and only a few years into the late '80s. The original Steinberger basses were all the rage in the '80s, and the concept of headless basses was beginning to take hold among musicians, especially bassists. Companies began developing headless models, and Greco added this Formula model featuring a Steinberger bridge to its lineup. Then, when Steinberger became a subsidiary of Gibson and the boom died down in the early '90s, it disappeared from the lineup, and production ceased after about three or four years. This instrument features a maple through-neck with a sandwiched neck, an ebony fingerboard, and PJ-type pickups. It offers the sustain of a through-neck and the warmth of the wood, with a fuller low-mid range and a more manageable sound than the original.
