Product overview Manufactured in the early 1970s, this rare transitional model, the EG-550BL, produced by Matsumoku Industrial, has arrived. Its most distinctive feature is the cursive "THE GRECO" logo, which was used on only a very small number of guitars during the transition from the standard "Gneco" logo to the "Greco" logo! It retains many details from the early days of Japanese vintage guitars, such as the small joint plate with "MADE IN JAPAN" stamping indicating it was made by Matsumoku, and the lack of a serial number stamp indicating it is a pre-1975 model. Unlike the EG-700BB, which was part of the lineup in the late 70s, it uses a bolt-on construction, which gives it a crisp tone and tight response. The clean look with the binding omitted is a pioneering design that seems to have foreshadowed the Gibson Les Paul Studio released years later. This is a one-of-a-kind guitar with extremely high historical value.

The truss rod works well, and there is plenty of room for adjustment in both the forward and reverse warp correction directions. The neck curvature has been adjusted with the truss rod. It's in surprisingly good condition for its age. The frets have been worn down, but they are still high enough that it doesn't interfere with playing.
